The quick version. Perth's warehouse jobs cluster in a handful of industrial suburbs, mainly Kewdale, Welshpool, Forrestfield, Hazelmere, Canning Vale, Jandakot, Malaga and Wangara. Entry level picking and packing roles are open to beginners, and a forklift licence (the LF class from WorkSafe WA) is the single biggest step up in pay and options. Most roles start as casual through labour hire agencies, and the people who get hired apply early, can start at short notice and can get to the site for early or night shifts.
Warehouse work is one of the fastest ways to start earning in Perth. You do not need a degree. You can often start within a week. And in Western Australia it has a second use that most guides ignore: it is a realistic path toward mining supply and FIFO work, which pays far more.
This guide covers the roles, the pay, the licences, where the work is, and a practical plan.
why Perth, and why we wrote this
Western Australia is the third largest state among the people who use karmik.ai, after Victoria and New South Wales. When we looked at the roles our WA users are chasing, the list split in two. Half were office and tech roles. The other half were hands-on: forklift and high reach forklift, loader, operator labourer, machine operator, plant operator, and several people looking for their first FIFO job with no mining experience.
That second group is who this guide is for. The question they all ask is the same: how do I get in the door, and how do I move up from there?
the warehouse roles, and what each one needs
| Role | What you do | Beginner friendly? | Licence needed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Picker packer | Pick orders from shelves, pack and label them | Yes | None |
| Storeperson | Receive, store, pick and dispatch stock, keep records | Yes, with some experience | Often LF preferred |
| Forklift operator | Move pallets, load and unload trucks | With licence | LF high risk work licence |
| Order picker operator | Pick from height using an order picking forklift | With licence | LO high risk work licence |
| Reach truck operator | Work narrow aisles and high racking | With licence and experience | Usually LF, confirm with your trainer |
| Receiving or dispatch clerk | Check deliveries, paperwork and the stock system | Some experience | None, system skills help |
| Inventory or stock controller | Stock counts, accuracy, system reconciliation | No | None |
| Warehouse team leader | Run a shift, people and targets | No | Usually LF |
If you are new, apply for picker packer and general storeperson roles first. If you have any warehouse experience at all, get your LF licence as soon as you can. It opens more ads than any other single change you can make.
the forklift licence in WA
In Western Australia, operating a forklift requires a high risk work licence issued through WorkSafe WA. The LF class covers forklift trucks other than order pickers. Order picking forklifts need the separate LO class.
To get one, you train with a Registered Training Organisation, then get assessed as competent by an assessor accredited by WorkSafe. After that, you apply to WorkSafe for the licence itself. Courses usually run over one or two days, and plenty of providers operate in Perth's industrial suburbs.
Training providers list their own course prices, and WorkSafe charges a separate licence fee, so get two or three quotes. Some labour hire agencies and employers will pay for the licence once you have worked for them for a while. It is worth asking.
Put the licence class and number on the first page of your resume. Many forklift ads ask for it in the screening questions, and a resume without it gets skipped.

what warehouse jobs pay in Perth
The legal floor is clear. Most warehouse roles are covered by the Storage Services and Wholesale Award, with minimum rates set by level. Award rates rose 4.75% from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2026, and the national minimum wage is $26.44 an hour.
On top of that, three things move your real pay. Casual loading, usually 25%, applies to most casual roles. Shift penalties apply to early morning, afternoon and night shifts, plus weekends and public holidays. And licences matter: licensed forklift and reach truck operators are usually classified higher and paid more.
In practice, a casual night shift forklift role pays a lot more per hour than a day shift picker role, even at the same site. If you can work nights, say so clearly.
Use Seek's salary filter and the pay ranges in ads to check the going rate in your area. Check your payslips against the Fair Work pay calculator, especially in your first few weeks.

where the warehouse jobs are
Perth's warehouses sit in a small number of industrial areas. Choose two or three you can reliably get to, then set your Seek and Indeed location searches around them.
| Area | Side of the city | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Kewdale and Welshpool | East, near the airport | Freight, transport and distribution, with the Kewdale freight terminal nearby. A lot of shift work. |
| Forrestfield and Hazelmere | East, near the airport | Large distribution and logistics sites, freight forwarding |
| Canning Vale and Jandakot | South-east and south | Food, retail and wholesale distribution, manufacturing |
| Malaga and Wangara | North | Wholesale, trade supplies, manufacturing, smaller warehouses |
| Bibra Lake, Kwinana and Henderson | South, near the port | Port related logistics, industrial and marine supply |
Transport is the hidden filter. Many industrial areas are hard to reach by public transport at 5am or after a night shift ends. If you have a car and a licence, put that on your resume. Ads often ask, and it can be the deciding factor between two otherwise equal applicants.
labour hire: the usual way in
A lot of Perth warehouse hiring goes through labour hire and recruitment agencies. They post on Seek and Indeed, often without naming the client site. They hire casuals for peak periods, then the client offers permanent roles to the people who turned up and worked well.
1. Apply to every agency ad that fits, even if that exact job fills. It gets you into their system.
2. Answer your phone. Agencies often call with work for the next morning. The first person who says yes gets the shift.
3. Have your gear ready. Steel cap boots and high visibility clothing are often required from day one.
4. Expect checks. Many sites require a drug and alcohol test, and some ask for a police clearance or a basic medical. Having a recent National Police Certificate ready can speed things up.
5. Turn up early, every time. Reliability is how casual shifts become a permanent offer. In warehousing, that is often the whole interview.
from warehouse to FIFO: the realistic path
Many of our WA users want to work FIFO on a mine site. With no mining experience, that is hard to do directly. Warehousing is one of the most realistic bridges.
Mine sites and their contractors need storepersons, warehouse and logistics staff to run their supply chain. Those roles look for exactly what a Perth warehouse job gives you: forklift experience, stock systems, safety habits and a clean record.
A practical sequence looks like this. Six to twelve months in a Perth warehouse. Your LF licence, and ideally experience with a stock or warehouse management system. A clean drug and alcohol record. Then apply for FIFO storeperson and warehouse roles, which often state the experience they want in the ad.
Mining companies and their contractors usually expect a medical, a drug and alcohol test, and sometimes site inductions. FIFO rosters are demanding, so be honest with yourself about the swing before you apply.
the resume that gets warehouse callbacks
Warehouse hiring managers and agencies read for four things: can you do the work, are you licensed, will you show up, and can you get here. Put all four on the first half of page one.
Your first lines: 'LF high risk work licence (WA). Available immediately, including nights and weekends. Own car, based in Midland.' Use your real details.
Then experience with numbers: 'Picked and packed around 150 orders a shift with high accuracy'. 'Loaded and unloaded containers safely for 8 months with no incidents'. Any physical, shift or safety work counts, including retail stockroom, hospitality kitchens, farm work and construction labouring.
List systems you have used, such as RF scanners or a warehouse management system, by name if you know it.
Keep it to one or two pages. A short cover letter that repeats your availability, licence and location is enough for most warehouse roles.
a one week plan to get your first shifts
Day 1: set Seek and Indeed alerts for picker packer, storeperson, warehouse and forklift, centred on two or three industrial areas you can reach. Filter for casual and full time.
Day 2: apply to 10 to 15 ads, including every relevant labour hire ad. Each application should lead with your availability, licence and transport.
Day 3: book a forklift course if you do not have a licence yet. Get your boots and high vis sorted.
Day 4: apply to another 10 new ads. Call one or two agencies you applied through and tell them when you can start.
Day 5: keep your phone on and say yes to the first suitable shift.
That is 20 to 25 applications in a week. Warehouse jobs fill fast, so speed matters more than polish, but the application still has to answer the employer's questions. karmik.ai writes a short tailored letter for each ad from your profile, including your licence and availability, so you can apply the same day the alert lands. On Pro, the desktop app applies on Seek from your own computer.
mistakes that cost people shifts
Not saying you can start now. Availability is often the deciding factor in warehousing. Put it in the first line.
Hiding the licence. If you have an LF licence and it is not on page one, many agencies will never see it.
Applying to sites you cannot reach. A 5am start you cannot get to is a job you will lose in week one.
Ignoring safety. Warehouses are serious about it. Mention any safety training, inductions or incident free records you have.
Missing calls. Agencies fill shifts by phone, fast. If you cannot answer, call back within the hour.
Common questions
Where are the most warehouse jobs in Perth?
Mostly in Perth's industrial suburbs: Kewdale and Welshpool, Forrestfield and Hazelmere near the airport, Canning Vale and Jandakot in the south-east, Malaga and Wangara in the north, and Bibra Lake, Kwinana and Henderson near the port. Choose areas you can reliably reach for early or night shifts.
Do I need a forklift licence for warehouse work in Perth?
Not for entry level picker packer roles. To operate a forklift in WA you need a high risk work licence from WorkSafe WA, the LF class for most forklifts or the LO class for order pickers. Getting your LF licence opens far more roles and usually better pay.
How do you get a forklift licence in WA?
Train with a Registered Training Organisation, get assessed as competent by a WorkSafe accredited assessor, then apply to WorkSafe WA for the licence. Courses usually take one or two days. Get quotes from a few Perth providers, and ask agencies or employers whether they will cover the cost.
What do warehouse jobs pay in Perth?
Most warehouse roles are covered by the Storage Services and Wholesale Award, which sets minimum rates by level, and the national minimum wage is $26.44 an hour from 1 July 2026. Casual loading, shift penalties and forklift licences push real pay well above the floor, especially for night shifts.
Can warehouse experience lead to a FIFO job?
Often, yes. Mine sites and their contractors hire storepersons and warehouse staff, and look for forklift experience, stock system skills, safety habits and a clean drug and alcohol record. Six to twelve months in a Perth warehouse with an LF licence makes those applications far stronger.
How quickly can I start a warehouse job in Perth?
Through labour hire agencies, sometimes within days. Have steel cap boots and high vis ready, be prepared for a drug and alcohol test, keep your phone on, and say clearly in your application that you can start immediately.
